We investigated a case of persistent blurred vision following cataract surgery, leading to the discovery of vitamin A deficiency in a 74-year-old man. Using advanced tests like full-field electroretinograms and optical coherence tomography, we noted significant retinal changes and low vitamin A levels.
After administering vitamin A supplements for three months, we saw remarkable improvement in his vision and retinal health. This highlights the importance of diagnosing vitamin A deficiency, especially in patients showing persistent vision problems post-surgery.

Case study on vitamin A recovery
Corneal perforation due to vitamin A deficiency in a patient with short bowel syndrome.
Our exploration focused on how vitamin A deficiency relates to blurred vision in a 63-year-old patient suffering from nyctalopia and severe rod dysfunction. Using various imaging techniques, we found that this individual's retinal abnormalities primarily affected the photoreceptor layer.
Notably, even after receiving vitamin A supplementation, his symptoms showed significant improvement, although the retinal lesions did not change. This suggests that while vitamin A treatment can help restore visual function, it may not reverse existing retinal damage related to deficiency.

Vitamin A is more effective
[Effects of different eye protection methods during head and neck surgery under general anesthesia].
We evaluated the effectiveness of vitamin A eye gel as a protective measure for patients during head and neck surgery under general anesthesia. Our study involved 120 patients who were randomly assigned either vitamin A eye gel or erythromycin eye ointment, both paired with 3M transparent tape for eye protection.
Upon examining the outcomes, we found that vitamin A offered significant advantages, specifically in reducing corneal staining and discomfort symptoms like blurred vision compared to erythromycin. Thus, vitamin A appears to be a superior choice for preventing ocular complications during surgery.

Clearer vision experienced
8 people found this helpful
Half a year has passed since I took one tablet nightly. When I feel discomfort, if I take 2 tablets, it alleviates the issue. I haven't needed cold medicine recently. It has excellent effects such as reduced eyestrain, clearer vision, and improved whiteness of my eyes. Despite price increases, I plan to continue taking them. With one tablet daily, my vision became clearer and redness disappeared. Surprisingly, my makeup improved within days of starting these.
Blurred vision is a common visual disturbance characterized by a loss of sharpness in eyesight, making objects appear hazy or out of focus. This condition can be temporary or chronic and can result from a range of factors, including refractive errors such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism. It can also occur due to underlying health issues, such as diabetes, cataracts, or even eye strain from prolonged screen time. Depending on the cause, blurred vision may affect one eye or both and can vary in severity.
If you're experiencing blurred vision, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional or an optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam. They can determine the underlying reason for your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatments or corrective measures, such as glasses, contact lenses, or surgery. Early intervention is key, especially if the blurred vision is sudden and accompanied by other symptoms, as this could indicate a more serious condition requiring immediate attention.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that's essential for several critical bodily functions, including vision, immune response, and cell differentiation. It comes in two primary forms: preformed vitamin A (retinol) found in animal products like liver, fish, and dairy, and provitamin A carotenoids, primarily found in colorful fruits and vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and spinach. The body can convert carotenoids into retinol, making these plant sources a valuable dietary option, especially for those following a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.
Aside from its role in maintaining healthy vision—particularly in low-light conditions—vitamin A plays a significant role in skin health and the functioning of the heart, lungs, and kidneys. It also supports the immune system by promoting the development and function of white blood cells. While it's uncommon to experience a deficiency in countries where a balanced diet is accessible, a lack of vitamin A can lead to serious health problems, including night blindness and increased susceptibility to infections. In contrast, excessive intake of vitamin A, particularly through supplements, can be toxic and lead to several health issues, making it crucial to maintain a balanced intake.
Vitamin A plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy vision, particularly in low-light conditions. It is an essential nutrient that contributes to the production of rhodopsin, a pigment found in the retina that helps us see in dim light. A deficiency in Vitamin A can lead to a condition known as night blindness, and in severe cases, it can cause more serious issues, including complete vision loss. Ensuring you receive adequate amounts of Vitamin A, either through diet or supplements, may improve vision clarity for those who are deficient.
However, if you are experiencing blurred vision, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional as it can be a symptom of various underlying conditions, from refractive errors to more serious eye diseases. While adequate Vitamin A may help in cases linked to deficiency, it is not a cure-all solution for blurred vision. If you're hoping to optimize your eye health, consider incorporating a well-balanced diet that includes foods rich in Vitamin A, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens, alongside regular check-ups with an eye care specialist.

The research supports the use of vitamin A supplements for addressing blurred vision, particularly in cases linked to deficiency or certain ocular conditions. One noteworthy study highlighted that a 74-year-old man with persistent blurred vision post-cataract surgery experienced significant improvements after receiving vitamin A supplementation over three months, suggesting a direct link between vitamin A deficiency and vision health [1]. Furthermore, another study reported a significant recovery in vision for a woman suffering from blurred vision due to a corneal condition attributed to vitamin A deficiency, further confirming the crucial role of this vitamin in maintaining visual clarity [3].
In addition to treating deficiencies, vitamin A has shown effectiveness in preventing complications that can lead to blurred vision during surgical procedures, outperforming alternatives such as erythromycin [2]. Moreover, clinical trials have found that certain vitamin A formulations, like retinol palmitate, improved symptoms of blurred vision associated with dry eye syndrome, indicating its broader applicability in varied conditions leading to visual disturbances [4]. Overall, the evidence underscores vitamin A's importance in managing and improving blurred vision, particularly linked to deficiency and certain ocular diseases.

Moreover, users have emphasized the improvements in clarity and comfort after taking Vitamin A with various health supplements. Reports indicated a remarkable reduction in symptoms associated with blurry or strained vision, by not only using Vitamin A alone but integrating it into a broader health regimen. This suggests that while Vitamin A is powerful on its own, its synergistic effects could be amplified when paired thoughtfully with complementary supplements, ultimately improving overall eye health and vision quality.
Users report varying dosages for Vitamin A to treat blurred vision effectively. Many reviewers emphasized positive outcomes after taking 10,000 IU daily, with one user mentioning they have experienced significant improvements in vision clarity after just a week of such a dosage Read Review. Another user stated they and their son took 25,000 IU daily for a month, and similarly observed considerable improvements in both skin and vision conditions Read Review.

For instance, one user indicated they saw a marked improvement after a month and transitioned from daily squinting to clear vision without the need for adjustments Read Review.
